"Weaponization of Government"

Whence the phrase "weaponization of government?" When did we start talking about "weaponized" agencies and institutions? Let's see what Google Trends says.

As of this writing (August, 2024), Google shows the term appearing in 2023, and peaking in February of that year.

What was going on at that time?

The Republican Party, after briefly waking up from Donald Trump's spell, returned to serving him and was in pushback mode. Raskin said it well.

When you hear, then, someone talk about government or institutions being "weaponized," it's not a conclusion. Rather, an accusation. And powerful accusations require compelling evidence. The subcommittee will make its final report shortly after its expiration in January, 2025.
